NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has crossed 15 million followers on Twitter becoming the second most followed world leader if Pope Francis is not included.
At the time of writing this story, Modi has 15,074,389 followers trailing behind US President Barack Obama who has 64,209,386 followers. Obama is the most followed world leader on Twitter.
In India, PM Modi is the third most followed celebrity with Amitabh Bachchan (@SrBachchan) and Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) leading at 16,992,070 and 15,295,510 followers, respectively.
The PM was recognised as the third most followed world leader on Twitter in April, behind Obama and the Pope clocking 10.9 million followers. He has added 8.8 million followers in the last one year, the largest increase in follower count for an Indian account.
PM Modi is an active Twitter user keeping his followers posted about almost every development related to his schedule in addition to his views and ideas. He has also been using it as a diplomacy tool for connecting with other world leaders.
Modi’s victory tweet is still the most re-tweeted tweet in India with 75,455 retweets.
