The biggest mobile event of the year which takes place near the end of February every year. MWC is Mobile World Congress and there were pretty big announcements this time of the year from Samsung, Nokia, Huawei and others. There were launch of many top smartphones, tablets and smartwatches and new trends in mobile such as the 5G network. All the big companies attend the event in one way or another except Apple. Here are all the major announcements and ideas discussed in MWC 2018.

What is Mobile World Congress?

Mobile World Congress is an annual event by GSMA held in different parts of Europe mainly in Spain. It is a launch event for many of the high-end smartphones, tablets and big announcements. It also invites the industrial heavyweights to talk about 5G, Virtual Reality and other technologies.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ASUS

Asus announced three new ZenFone breezeless display. ZenFone 5 has a 636 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 6.2-inch display. ZenFone 5Z is a high-end smartphone which has 8GB ram and 256GB Internal storage. It will be priced around $500 in UK and is set for launch in the Q3.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM HUAWEI

Huawei came up with the announcements of three new tablets – MediaPad M5 8.4 and 10.8-inch models, and a Huawei MediaPad Pro. They also unveiled a new laptop – Huawei MateBook X Pro.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM LENOVO    

Lenovo unveiled the Yoga 530 and Yoga 730 laptops. They are 13.3 and 15-inch laptops with a flippable screen to give it a tablet look. Yoga 530 is also known as Flex 14.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM NOKIA

Nokia is on the mission of its revival and they launched five new smartphones during the MWC 2018 conference. Nokia 1, Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 8110 are the five new smartphones launched this year with 4G on board. They brought in 2K pOLED display and new Zeiss optics-powered camera. Nokia 8110 features 4G network and priced at $79.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SAMSUNG

Samsung was already up with the launch of Samsung S9 and they came up with two models – Samsung S9 and Samsung S9+ during the MWC 2018 conference. It looks the same as of S8 but it has a new dual-camera lens and supports HDR too. Pre-order has already started and sale starts from March 17th. S9 is priced at £739 and S9+ at £869.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SONY

 Sony has come up with the launch of Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra earlier this year at a mid-range. It also added XZ2 and XZ2 Compact during the conference this year. The new feature is that it has the ability to shoot 4K HDR video and capture at 960 frames per second for slow-mo capture.
